5 Stars Sweet but not short
This is a fine addition to the Grand Theft Auto series with all the adult themes, crime sprees, and drug dealing you could ask for.
Excellent for on-the-go gaming.
5 Stars Must have for the DS owners, or get a DS for this game
I am a huge fan of GTA games (San Andreas is my favorite). No, I’m not attracted to the mature content and/or violence. I just love the ongoing fun/refreshing game-play and story for which GTA is known. GTA: Chinatown Wars continues this.
Of course like everyone else, I was skeptical on how it would play on the DS (see below). I was also worried that it may be another piece of media that makes Asians (especially the males) look bad, which was only done slightly. The stereotypes actually favored the Chinese main character and his motives.
It did pain me that they finally put an Asian in the lead GTA role (after 6 or more parts) but on the DS version; I guess that’s better than nothing in this society. And it’s lame that all the ads and banners for this game just shows the one hawt Asian female.
Anyway… here are the pros and cons:
Pros:
* Great use of DS features (touch, microphone, and dual screen)
* Does not use touch for the controls (a relief for GTA game-play)
* Standard GTA storyline and humor (which is very entertaining)
* Standard GTA open environment (side quests, treasure hunting, etc)
* Cool PDA interface (GPS, email, and online shopping)
* Lots to do, all enjoying
* Loads and loads of fun
Cons:
* Overhead view really makes this game frustrating (hard to see what’s ahead when driving fast, overpasses/buildings/helicopters blocks your view, hard to tell who’s a cop)
* GPS path-finding is terrible, but common sense will tell you to just drive over the median, thru the alley, or etc.
* Kinda difficult to get used to everything (gas/brake still confuses me), but you’ll be rewarded when you do.
One thing I was going to list as a con was how a cop can easily bust you by taking you out of your car and erase your hard work. Just either drive fast or exit the car before he takes you out.
5 Stars Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars = Win!
All right, I’m not going to waste your time and re-say what has been already been said. I’m going to say it flat out: buy it. It is the biggest game ever on a Nintendo DS flash cart ever, so you can expect alot of detail. The story: simple, but a knockout. There is an amazing plot twist at the end, but trust me, you will not expect it. Just great, Shell out your 35 bucks, and play your friggin brains out!
5 Stars An applealing sky-view GTA
This game is very fun, like everyone has been saying. When I found out it played like the original, I was very skeptical. But then I played it and found out it was very fun and addicting. If you have a DS and any interest in the franchise, then try this one out.
5 Stars GTA on the DS: its what we wanted and they delivered
Obviously this is not the same as any version of GTA since GTA III, but they did a perfect job making a version for the DS. It has all the stuff you love and is put into perfect little packages so you can pick it up and play a little any time you want. I am having way more fun with this than GTA IV. Chinatown wars delivers on the things we love about GTA and leaves out all the other crap.
