5 Stars Most underrated game of 2008
Addicting, fun gameplay with an interesting story - what is there not to like?

i have been playing this game for 3 days straight, and i gotta say, for 18 bucks this game is a steal. if you like hack’n slash games, or RPGs of any kind, buy this now. the controls can sometimes be a bit of a hassle, but in the end the few flaws can be easily overlooked as you enjoy pounding thousands of future-goblin things into dust.

5 Stars Sweet Game
This is one of the best games of the year for 2008 i have over 400hrs logged on it and its just awesome graphics and game play are great only bad thing i can say is WE HAVE NO DLC that was promised and its too short.

4 Stars too human
I don’t know much about this game. My son doesn’t talk about it at all. He usually lets me know if he likes the games.

4 Stars Great RPG
Very tactical, interesting game at sight and convinces in history, does not have many types of enemies, but it is another great game of RPG

4 Stars Too human
Its a fun and original game the only thing i found annoing was that the levels are big and long and there tends to be a lot of enemies in one place.

Left 4 Dead

Left 4 Dead

Set in a modern day survival-horror universe, the co-operative gameplay of Left 4 Dead (L4D) casts four “Survivors” in an epic struggle against hordes of swarming zombies and terrifying “Boss Infected” mutants. Developed by Turtle Rock Studios and Valve, creators of the Counter-Strike and Half-Life games, the latest AI technology allows for multiplayer games of one to eight players.

A new and highly virulent strain of the rabies virus emerges and spreads through the human population with frightening speed. The pandemic’s victims become grotesquely disfigured widely violent psychopaths, attacking the uninfected on sight. As one of the “lucky” few apparently immune to the sickness, you, unfortunately, are also trapped in a city crawling with thousands of the bloodthirsty Infected. Alone, you’re dead. But together with a handful of fellow survivors, you might just fight your way to safety.

Players can play as a Survivor or as one of four types of Boss Infected, each of whom possess a unique mutant ability, such as a 50-foot tongue lasso or a giant belly full of explosive methane gas. The gameplay of L4D is set across four massive campaigns. The zombie population of each mission is choreographed by an AI Director that monitors the human players’ actions and creates a unique and dramatic experience for them on the fly.

3 Stars Great FUN! Until You Realize It’s The Same Everytime You Play….
This game is great, you run around and blast zombies. Great fun for online, actually, online experience is pretty neat since you can talk to people.

However, you’ll soon realize one thing:

1. Is this it?

You’ll realize that all you really do is the same thing every single time OVER and OVER again. You run around shooting endless amount of zombies. Sounds like fun and I admit, it is fun for a week or two, then its just boring as heck. It’s not like you’re actually trying to beat some sorta game with an ending, it has no real ending basically! It ends fast and has like 4 different scenarios to play under, but after you finish them all, you feel like deja vu….

Rent it for awhile, great fun at first, then it gets boring.

5 Stars great 2-player game!
I’m a casual “old school” type of player. But I love to get together with friends occasionally and play multi-player games. Left 4 Dead has become one of my all-time favorites. The gameplay is just phenomenal. The graphics and sounds really suck you in, and the controls are “tight”.

One of the things that I find terrific about this game is the way the computer players (i.e. “goodguys”) are integrated into the game. They play along side you, do really smart tactical things (most of the time), make useful comments (along with other more “colorful” comments) etc. You really develop an affection for them after awhile. Another very cool feature is that if a player drops out, the game senses this after a short while, and “demotes” that player to being an NPC. Then when and if the player returns, he or she is free to resume their game by taking back control from the NPC they were previously playing.

The game is filled with really thoughtful multi-player touches like that which keeps the game fun. I highly recommend it!

5 Stars Left 4 Dead
This is a great game. There really isn’t anything else like it out there. You would find it hard to find any problems with it. The only thing I notice, is the lack of developed story; but I guess that when you get down to it, this is a multiplayer game. The fact that they are releasing FREE extra content (new levels and play modes) leaves no doubt that this was a great purchase.

4 Stars Left 4 Dead
This game would have been more enjoyable with an actual storyline to follow. However, it started you in one the four campaigns of your choice and you had to go through each safehouse to progress all the while dealing with swarms of zombies. As others have stated on here it would have been nice to get the background on the characters you play. Maybe a little information on what happened to cause the populations to turn savage. Maybe it could have had you run into a few of the other survivors that you read messages about in the saferooms, but that opportunity was lost in this game. There are a lot of MAYBES and WHAT-IFs that could have been explored for this game to make it great but those ideas were Left 4 Dead!!

One of the only things that made this enjoyable was the ability to play through it with three of your friends. There’s nothing like hearing your friends shouting to you as they are overwhelmed by the horde because they were dumb enough to venture off by themselves. Then there’s having your other friends who stick together, work off each other and progress through the game at the slowest members pace; which enabled us to NOT have anyone Left 4 Dead.

The versus was alright. Merely rerunning through the campaign missions, but this time having to avoid human players as the special infected. This was entertaining the first few times, but I absolutely hated playing as the infected so when it was my teams turn to go after the survivors the multiplayer was boring although it was minutely fun to pounce on unsupecting humans occasionally. Needless to say I don’t play the versus anymore, the enterainment value dropped after the first day.

4 Stars Best co-op game I’ve played
My wife loves to play co-op games, especially when it comes to killing zombies. This ended up being perfect for us. I tired to play it on my own but it just didn’t cut it. I can’t say anything that hasn’t already been said, just that this is bar none, hands down, without a doubt the most fun I’ve had playing co-op. Yea, there is really no story and I’d love to see more guns (the hunting rifle is essentially useless when you’ve got two dozen zombies swarming you), but if you’re not a game snob and you just want to have some yell out loud fun with a friend then definitely give this a try.

Also, this is a really fast paced game, I tried to play RE5 right afterward and it felt like I was walking through mud everything was moving so slow.

I gave it 4 stars because of the lack of different guns. There really isn’t that noticeable of a difference between the guns (I can take out a zombie across the street with a shot gun the same as I can with a hunting rifle equipped with a zoom scope). I would love to have to be able to make a real decision when it comes to which gun I wanted. As it is it’s 90% aesthetic, there are differences but they are negligible.

Wanted Weapons of Fate

May 31st, 2009

Wanted Weapons of Fate

Based on Universal Pictures’ action-thriller Wanted, this game promises to deliver the same fantastic visual style, in-your-face attitude and edge-of-your-seat action as the blockbuster motion picture. The game continues the story of hero Wesley Gibson, picking up the action where the film leaves off and creating an entirely new chapter exploring both Wesley’s journey to becoming an unmatched berassassin and the epic fiction of “The Fraternity.” Featuring intense third-person action, the Wanted video game will take combat to the next level with iconic moves — such as “Curving Bullets” and “Assassin Time” — drawn directly from the film, as well as an innovative, multi-layered cover mechanic.

4 Stars pretty good, albeit short
Well i got wanted on a saturday played it for about an hour and a half, put it down and picked it up on monday for about 3 hours or so and i finished it, yup its that short. This game is good however if you want a straight up shooter thats pretty fun to play and has some interesting moments in it then i say go for this. Graphics are ok not the best but good and the story is good to anyone who has seen the movie or read the comics. (although the movie was vastly different than the comics)So in my opinion this is a fun short game i did finish it but i am not trading it in as i would like to go thru it again and i dont do that to often.

2 Stars Wasted potential
Translating Mark Millar and J.G. Jones’ Wanted comic to film was one thing, but translating the bullet-laden flick to the video game world seems like a match made in Heaven. Sadly, Wanted: Weapons of Fate is really nothing else but wasted potential. Taking place after the film, you play as Wesley and take down hordes of baddies. The whole curving the bullet technique is here, and is a fun little trick to pull off at first as well. Once you get the hang of it though, as well as the game’s controls, Wanted ends up being a pretty boring and easy affair. The fact that the game is so short that you could finish it in an afternoon doesn’t help matters any, and neither does the fact that there’s no online play either. The game looks decent enough, there’s multiple difficulties, and there’s some unlockables including alternate costumes and the like, but once you play through Wanted: Weapons of Fate, there really isn’t any reason to go back. Were this a budget-priced game, it would definitely be worth checking out, but alas, it isn’t, and considering the elements that could have translated so well into the action video game world, the game just ends up coming up so short. All in all, Wanted: Weapons of Fate is worth a rental for fans of the film, but other than that, it’s best left on the shelf.

4 Stars caught me by suprise
i rented this game the other night just to see how it was. i wasnt expecting much, just because i havent heard too much about it. i will start by saying this game is up there as one of the funnest games I have ever played. the slow motion scenes and curving your bullets is just pure fun. the graphics arent the greatest and the language is alil too much, i didnt mind it, but i can see moms complaining. game was short but the levels were fun. the trophies are good too. if youre a fan of the comics or movie, i reccomend this. deff worth a rental.

4 Stars Supervillians doing things without consequences
Premise

*Taking place after the film “Wanted,” based on the graphic novel, you play Wesley Gibson and his father as they confront other factions of the Fraternity of assasins.

The Good Things

*The video/sound quality was much better than I expected. It’s still not as great as other games out there (like “Kill Zone 2″), but it is still a pleasure to watch.

*Includes some in-game unlockable content.

*Controls are easy to master and intuitive.

*Gameplay is relatively easy and linear. It’s nothing terribly challenging, but offers the uniqueness of using slow-motion and bullet-curving powers.

*Level designs are good. Everything has strong textures and details. Some areas look as authentic as they should, and even includes some locales from the movie.

*Finally, you can use the cheat codes that were hidden in the “Wanted” special features of the DVD and Blu-Ray. It’s a bit of a marketing ploy, I know, but now my collection feels complete.

*The story is not bad, and seems to jive with both the movie and comic book well.

*Characters are good. You can expect the same bad attitude that the movie had (but not quite as bad as the comic). You also get to see more costumed villians around.

*Music is good (same as the movie).

*Has trophies.

The Bad Things

*No multiplayer.

*Had one or two graphical errors.

*Not for kids; rated M for bloody violence and lots of language.

The Questionable Things

*As said above, the gameplay is easy and linear, almost to the point where it offers very little challenge. I don’t mind, but it could be seen as overly simple or unoriginal.

At first, when playing the demo, I thought this was just another typical shooter with some horrid graphics. In truth, though, the game has good graphics and the gameplay is fun enough. Above all, I enjoyed the movie too darn much to pass up the game, and now I’m addicted to it. If you’re looking for something groundbreaking, you might be dissapointed. Otherwise, you might enjoy this.

5 Stars Pretty awesome game missing one thing…
Wanted: Weapons of Fate for PS3 is an awesome game in my opinion. It is fun, action packed, and the way the story changes from present Wesley Gibson to past Cross and back again is really a treat for fans of the movie and comic book alike.

The controls are really easy to get used to, only took me about 30 seconds, especially since there is a tutorial showing you all of the movies in the game. I love the way you can curve bullets, especially while playing Cross with the semi-automatic. Gameplay is very smooth and quick with the exception of when your playing a ‘boss’. I will say this; it is difficult to know when your life is low unless you pay attention to the brightness and color scheme of the screen. When the screen goes gray, you are about to die… but if you take cover for a couple of seconds, your life builds again.

Enough praise, now here is my one gripe.. I wish the game had a multiplayer. I know so many people that buy this game will only dream of a massive online multiplayer experience where you get to curve bullets, design your own assasin, and hit the open terrain in crazy bullet flying online action. Even if no online multiplayer at least shoot for an online co-op where a friend can join in on the game sort of in a time crisis kind of way.

Overall, I think this is an awesome game. I have no complaints as of yet. I played it for a couple hours last night and am ready to plop down on the couch for some more bullet bending fun. Pick this game up if you want to be entertained and liked either Stronghold and/or Bourne Conspiracy as a few aspects from those games seep through the cracks of Wanted: Weapons of Fate. You will not be disappointed with this game if you want to have a fun gaming experience.

WARNING: THIS GAME IS IN NO WAY SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN UNDER 16 I’D SAY OR THOSE OFFENDED BY LANGUAGE OR GORE.

5 Stars I thought it would suck
Then I saw a video review…bought it and though after 1 play…that was too short …so i played it again..and again..and again and it jsut kept getting funner…..weird but true….of course you get the usually arseholes who care more about winning than fun…a lot of eliteists but hey thats in every game…now i can jibe at them over the mic….

4 Stars Great Arcade-ish Co-op; and Nothing Else
Before saying anything else, I feel obligated to point out that this game does have a single-player mode that can be enjoyed (the operative word: “endured” would be more like it) offline. Your allies will be three AI-controlled drones who don’t know how to toss grenades, and thankfully will not even pick them up. There isn’t even a pure LAN capability here. If you want to play with other people as Valve intended you to, you are going to have to be online and connected to the Steam console. Some people are picky about Steam, so be warned that this is a Steam game and there isn’t any way around it.

If that’s fine by you, then you are in for a treat. This is both a co-op game and a versus game, and both modes are spectacular. In co-op you play as one of four survivors attempting to escape the zombie apocalypse through one of four campaigns, each of which take between forty minutes and an hour and a half to beat, mostly depending on what problems you run into on the way. You will make your way through diverse settings to hitch a ride by helicopter, boat, armored car, or plane; but after twice through each campaign you’ll be seeing the same old things again and again, which is really the greatest limiting factor to this game: it is repetitive.

Valve pulls some tricks out to delay your boredom, but the presence of an AI “director” that randomizes creepy music cues, weapons and health placements, and enemy attacks is not enough to justify the game having so little to see and do. There are six guns and two bombs in the game, five types of “special infected” zombies in addition to the normal running types, and not much to change things up after the initial fun has worn off. Well, maybe there is: versus mode.

Once the vanilla co-op game has worn off, there’s the brutal versus mode. In this mode you still play as one of four human-controlled survivors huffing it out of town, but there are also four zombie players whose entire goal is to mess up your game. One team runs while the other hunts, and then you switch. At the end of the campaign, the team with the higher score wins. Not only is this far more frightening when you know that a scheming human mind is behind the actions that befall your rag-tag band, but it is also far more dynamic. Rather than just being attacked, you are being assaulted and picked off by the zombies. If there’s a flaw, it is that at the current time you can only play two of the campaigns in versus (though later this year Valve plans to change that).

This game is recommendable because it is the best co-op gameplay that you will ever experience, bar none. If you don’t mind learning the four campaigns really well and getting used to some nail-biting difficulty on later levels, then this game is for you.

5 Stars Just a good bit of fun
There’s not much to say about this game that hasn’t been said. It’s a great addition to anyone’s library. Take note though: to really experience this game, you gotta play it online and more preferably with people that you know. Single player is fun for a couple of times through, but playing with actual people makes for a much better experience.

Also, another good thing about getting this game is that it’s made by Valve. And Vavle supports their games long after they’ve been out. For instance, there is some new modes coming out real soon. Basically, you’ll get your money’s worth.

4 Stars The Dead are alive
This is a greaat game and very realistic. As for action, you can’t ask for more. Great graphics and the sound is awsome. Good game!

1 Star NO IDEA
Well, first off I read all the reviews and it sounds like a fun game so I decided to buy it. Now here’s my problem and it could be partly my fault for not researching more. Because this game requires internet activation I simply can’t play the game. I am currently stationed overseas and internet isn’t the greatest. Had I know this from the start I would never had wasted my money. I was looking for a good shooter to blow off some steam and was left scratching my head wondering why I spent the money for this. Not even in the product description did I see any mention of internet being required. I realize you need it for multiplayer, but you can’t play offline either…come on people. If I could give this a -5 rating I would just for the amount of disappointment I had.

Rayman Raving Rabbids

May 20th, 2009

Rayman Raving Rabbids

Rayman Raving Rabbids is the edgiest and most off-the-wall gaming experience in the history of the Rayman franchise. This new Rayman game features the funniest, zaniest, wackiest antics ever when hordes of nasty bunnies invade Rayman’s world. They enslave him, forcing Rayman to participate in a series of gladiator-like trials. In order to win his freedom, Rayman must entertain and outwit these crazed, out-of-control bunnies.

Beat the bad bunnies and become a superstar!

Welcome to a new generation of Rayman
You’d be hard-pressed to find a game with as much character as Rayman Raving Rabbids. From the creative minigames to the quirks of the bunnies, this game packs an immense amount of entertainment on one disc. It’s rare in games that failing during a competition can bring you as much joy as actually succeeding, but Rayman Raving Rabbids does an admirable job of rewarding your failure with a large dose of comic screams, flying plungers and crossed eyes.

Of course, the point is to succeed and not let the bunnies laugh at your failure. Rayman Raving Rabbids may have a lot of style but it has very little plot. Each level consists of four minigame challenges and one “boss battle,” so to speak. If you complete at least three of the minigames, the main gate opens, allowing you to take on a greater challenge. Once you play a minigame in the Story Mode, you unlock that minigame and can play it at any time and against friends.

Exercise your Wii Remote
Hand it to Ubisoft’s development crew as they really took advantage of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers’ capabilities. Some minigames are as simple as twirling the Wii Remote like a lasso and pushing a button to launch a cow as if you were in a hammer throw competition. Some minigames really test your coordinating, asking you to swing the Nunchuk like a jump rope and flicking the Wii Remote up to make Rayman jump.

Each level has one consistant challege, however: a rhythm game. As a song plays, the bunnies approach a spot on either stage left or right. When they hit that spot, you’ll shake the Nunchuk (if the bunny is on the left) or the Wii Remote when the rabbid hits the mark.

When you take on the boss stages, you’ll find yourself, more often than not, playing a rail shooter. The Wii Remote becomes your light gun, firing plungers at the horde of oncoming rodents. When your plunger supply runs out, shake the Nunchuk to reload. In recent years, the rail shooter (where you don’t control the movement) has been forsaken for the first-person shooter and free movement. The Rayman boss experience will make rail shooter fans rejoice. If other shooters can perform as well as the plunger-fueled firing action of Rayman Raving Rabbids, the genre will come back with a vengeance.

Impressive replay value
There’s extra incentive to play the many minigames of Rayman Raving Rabbids. When you complete a game in Challenge Mode, the game gives you a code that you can enter at the Rayman Web site which basically gives you access to special features on the site.

The minigames of Rayman Raving Rabbids skew toward a younger audience, and at first, an above-average gamer should find the games to be pretty easy. However, once the minigames are unlocked, a big challenge awaits you to get the highest scores and blast your friends in multiplayer challenges. That’s when the real party begins! Rayman delivers exactly what the Wii promises: fun and lots of it. Here’s hoping the bunnies come back for multiple invasions!

5 Stars Very amusing
I like game a lot, it is amusing, comic, also that the rabbit with the bad face that puts, makes believe that it is very intelligent, but it is not this way… I recommend it to the whole family so that he/she laughs at the bad things that happen to the rabbit

4 Stars Saving the Worlkd one plungewrat a time!
Greatest “Alien” game ever after RR TV Party.

Like some of us middle aged folks, I am not much of a gamer either. I owned the original Nintendo a long time ago and a Sega a sytem over 13 years ago. I got into a Wii because I saw how much fun you could have no matter what your age and skill. Living in Alaska there is only so much you can do at -40F or colder and playing wii and the games is a way to get rid of cabin fever. I got Raving Rbbids after I got the RR TV Party and my 7 yo daughter and I play both of them all the time. I picked it up after a friend on FB said they loved it. My only wish is that you could have access to more of the shooting plunger games without completing levels.

Overall I LOVE the RABBIDS!!!!

4 Stars I like the TV party better
I like the TV party better, but I got this one AFTER that game. This one is the beginning and has the variety and fun. I haven’t been able to “save” if I don’t get through an entire round of challenges so I need to figure that out. I’m partial to being a Rabbid character rather than Rayman (that is the character you are in this game) but overall, for the price, it’s a great deal!

5 Stars bought it as a gift
Bought it as a gift, the kids enjoyed the game and find it very fun. Great party game for kids of all ages.

5 Stars Great for people who aren’t video gamers
This game is great for friends that aren’t video gamers. The creative game play and intuitive use of the controllers makes it a level playing field for experienced gamers and newbies.
