Mirrors Edge

In a city where information is heavily monitored, agile couriers called Runners transport sensitive data away from prying eyes. In this seemingly utopian paradise, a crime has been committed and now you are being hunted. You are a Runner called Faith - and this innovative first-person action-adventure is your story. Mirror’s Edge delivers you straight into the shoes of this unique heroine as she traverses the vertigo-inducing cityscape, engaging in intense combat and fast paced chases. With a never before seen sense of movement and perspective, you will be drawn into Faith’s world. A world that is visceral, immediate, and very dangerous. Live or die? Soar or plummet? One thing is certain, in this city, you will learn how to run.

2 Stars Best game ever…but it will make you throw your controller at your TV.
Mirror’s Edge had the potential to be a great game, but it is flawed and I highly doubt there will be enough support behind the idea of a possible sequel. The presentation, the artwork, the ambient soundrack…almost everything about the game is beautiful until you actually start to play through it. It really is sad when productions are rushed and level designers and animators cut corners on projects like Mirror’s Edge. The concept was incredible, but the reality is kind of a joke, and this game is truly testament to the fact that some software houses need to spend as much time developing the playability and the engine as they do on the presentation and the cut scenes. This is the kind of game that makes even HDTV owners want to impulsively throw their PS3 controllers at the screen, due to several situations that demand 30+ attempts at making the same jump over and over again. Save your money for other games, or just buy a William Gibson or Neal Stephenson book instead–it would be a much better value!

3 Stars Visually fantastic….game play eh
Visually, graphically, and auditorially, the game is awesome BUT…the game play itself disproves the definition of insanity. So many times you do the same thing over and over and over and finally it works?!? I love a challenging game but this one is unnecessarily just plain hard. I bought it for my gf because it was different than the same old first person shoot everything in your way type game but she gave up on it before she even finished the tutorial. Her deal not the game’s. Any way, if the controls were eased up just a tad bit I think this would be a run-away hit. I have read very similar reviews since buying it so I know I am not the only one who feels this way. Still for a game in the $30 range it is well worth it.

4 Stars Fun Game
My husband and I both take turns playing this game. It’s a lot of fun but frustrating at times when you can’t figure out where to go next. The game looks great, it looks so real a times. Great buy.

5 Stars Mirrors Edge Review
The game is awsome. Basically you defy gravity by jumping from building to building and running from the cops while trying to solve a murder your sister has been framed for. The interface is easy to learn and you get into the game play within a few minutes. The game is part action adventure and part puzzle solver although the puzzle solver part is maybe only 10% of the game. The puzzles are more of where and how to go to reach you objective rather than actual puzzles. I would recommend the game to anyone looking for a crazy twist on a first person shooter, minus the gun. Wild!

4 Stars Cool but tedious
The game is really cool looking and really fun to play, but it gets somewhat tedious by about… the 4th chapter. Honestly, you do the same thing you did in the earlier chapters but the jumps and leaps get progressively more difficult. I like the pace of the game and the stylistic approach. Definitely worth buying if you want nice visuals.

5 Stars Amazing!
I was looking forward to this game since RE 4 and I when the release date kept getting delayed I was heartbroken. I picked it up on the release date and sadly beat it the same day which was not what I expected at all. But even though it’s very short and somewhat to easy I loved it. It fills in the Chris story and something you’ll be happy to see happens. If you’re a fan of the series I highly recommend this game!

4 Stars Great game
RE5 is a great game but does not last long because of the lack of a good multiplayer game mode. But does have significant replay ability due to wanting to beat it on professional.

5 Stars Sweet game.
Awesome game. I just took it for what it was and enjoyed it. I’ve enjoyed every Resident Evil game, at least in the main series.

5 Stars none
Though Resident Evil 5 lacks that terror caused by the licker you once expected from a R.E. game the change in the gameplay makes it a totally different game and can’t be compared to its predecessors. The only exception to this is R.E. 4 and 5 surpasses it emensely (sp?) anyway. I love it!

4 Stars Non your typical Zombie Action game
FOR XBOX 360 VERSION:

So let me begin by stating that this is MUCH different than other Resident Evil games, while still delivering the same quality story. Now I loved the original Resident Evil games, but this is my favorite. Especially after 4 which was in my opinion drawn out. Now while this game may lack dark creepy and cheap scares where things jump out, they changed pace by having FAST and strong enemies. The suspense is conveyed over a more action paced story and gameplay as opposed to fighting some slow dredging zombies and then spending hours searching for keys or solving puzzles. This game is good and very fun. Playing online with a friend is even more fun, as it allows players to use their own inventory items/profile associated content for gameplay as opposed to limiting their equipment to the host’s content. Split screen is a slight downfall because of the weird offset split screen set up, but this is likely done to maintain aspect ratio. The game encourages you to replay it over and over, and its actually rewarding to do so. Typically right after completing the game most players will immediately start a new game with their upgraded weapons to wreak havoc on some zombies. This game is certainly worth buying and replaying. You won’t regret it.

5 Stars Nerf & Strike!
This game is great fun. I play with my 9 year old son and we both have a great time!

3 Stars Looked like fun..
You can only play for so long cause your arm gets tired.. not as easy or fun as duck hunt, maybe if you had a large screen tv, but on my 32 inch things are still kind of small so you have to really be direct on the targer and hold your arm steady

5 Stars Way Too Addictive!
I bought the Wii for the exercise but saw this game for cheap. It’s great and addictive. The sound is pounding if you are connected to a hi fi sound system. A must have for diversion and you will be hooked. Not just for kids either - I’m over 50.

Enjoy!

5 Stars Fun Game
Great Game! I really enjoy watching my son play this game. I really don’t care for many game using guns for children but this is a neat game.

4 Stars Shooting Fun!
The premise of this game is to go through different kinds of shooting games and beat the top score of your “competitor” to reach the next level. At each level you do the same thing again, except that it gets harder and harder, and the one new thing that happens is that you “unlock” new nerf weapons along the way.

On the whole, it’s a lot of fun to shoot at the targets (which are all robots), and as far as shooting games are concerned, it’s as family-oriented as it gets. You can play to increase your character level or play in competition against other players to see who can get a better score.

While my kids really like this game (as do I), it’s the type of game where you play it a lot for a while, but then have put it down in favor of something else for a while. Then, once the repetitiveness doesn’t have you turned off anymore, you’re ready to play it non-stop again for several days or maybe weeks. In the long run, you never really get tired of it.

4 Stars Mindless FUN
This is not a very complicated game. It is your basic hack and slash game. There are really no strategies involved, just button smashing. It is perfect for times when you just don’t want to think and strategize too much after a long day. It is fun to power-up and upgrade weapons to enhance the game play.

NOTE: If you are looking for a DEEP game, look elsewhere!!

4 Stars Why change if people keep buying?
Sure Koei keeps releasing the same game with new skins and slight game play variation every few months. If you played one Koei game and liked it, chances are you’ll like any Koei game. I’ve played roughly 6 of the various Warriors games (Samurai, Dynasties, Orochi, etc..) and they are pretty much the same game over and over. You start off with a goal like say, save all the peasants, and then mow down 100’s of enemies getting that goal completed. Repeat until the end. That said, I like them. Don’t ask me why. They are just mindless button mashers. I love leveling up characters and every one has plenty of characters to level up. Try one out, if you enjoy it, pick up some of the others. Most older ones can be had cheap now, and since there’s not much difference between the old and the new, you’ll get the idea how the games play and save some $$ doing it.

5 Stars Great game, much better then the first one
I love the dynasty warriors series (except dynasty warriors 6) and have been playing them since dynasty 2. the whole concept of warriors orichi and controlling 3 different characters is awesome. i found the warriors orichi 2 to be much better then the first one.

4 Stars Mindless Fun
There’s just something fun about being a superhero surrounded my regular people. The plot is about as thick as rain and the story translates worse than a ’80s Jackie Chan movie, but the game is just a lot of fun. It’s just pure, repetitive, button mashing fun. I think it’s because you’re this super-powerful guy that makes it entertaining, and the level-up/improvement system along with ever increasing difficulties keeps you coming back for more.

5 Stars HD YAY!
Thank goodness this is available on the 360! Since PS3 is not backwards compatible, I would not have been able to play the PS2 version. But Microsoft saved the day! I love it! Great game!

Neverwinter Nights 2 Storm of Zehir Expansion

June 5th, 2009

Neverwinter Nights 2 Storm of Zehir Expansion

Neverwinter Nights 2 (NWN2) is a computer role-playing game set in the fantasy world of the Forgotten Realms, one of the popular campaign settings of Dungeons and Dragons. It takes the player from the tiniest of villages into a sweeping tale of danger and war, chronicling their rise from a peasant to a full-fledged hero of the Realms, defending it against one of the greatest threats of the age. Build a character that suits your style of play - good or evil, chaotic or lawful, with any number of skills, feats and professions available at the click of a button. Whether lobbing fireballs and researching forgotten spells as a powerful Wizard, hacking a trail through legions of orcs as a Fighter armed only with a battle axe and your courage, or taking on the role of a Rogue that can slip into the shadows at a moment’s notice, the choice is yours. Choose your alignment, your allies, your companions, and how you want your character to develop… design the character you want, role-play the way you want, and carry the battle to the enemy.

4 Stars Storm of Zehir
So far this is the best of the NWN games, and expansions for me. I like being able to create my party from the ground up, instead of selecting pre-made characters to join me.

5 Stars Great game
This is a great game. I loved the original and the expansion is just as good.

2 Stars Some interesting additions but more flash than substance
Oh, Obsidian. You are such a visionary company and you have so many wonderful and innovative ideas but why, oh why, do you insist on giving short shrift to your writing? Every time I’ve played one of your games, I have had the sensation that you are on the cusp of something great but then you invariably fail to carry through, so that the end result leaves me feeling that you got impatient to release your game and so just hurriedly finished it off. While this is nowhere more evident than with the lamentable Knights of the Old Republic II, I fear you have suffered from the same problem with this game.

The overland map concept, first off, is one that is a very good idea–in theory. When I first began playing the game, I enjoyed discovering new areas and having overland encounters. After a while, though, I grew very, very tired of the encounters. For one, there are far too many of them and it is very obnoxious and breaks the flow of the game to be continuously assaulted by a low-level group of monsters that has no hope of defeating my party. Perhaps this problem wouldn’t be quite as annoying if it weren’t for the fact that the load times of this game–the entire NWN 2 series, in point of fact–are so long as to be inexcusable. It got to the point several times where I was ready to abandon the game entirely because I quickly grew tired of it taking so abominably long to complete quests because I was attacked at every turn. This is but one example of a concept for which Obsidian deserves credit. It’s simply too bad that they ruined their own concept thanks to the annoying flaws described above.

As for the dungeons, they were tedious at best. Most of them were one-room throwaways and, after a while, I had the feeling that every dungeon I entered was more or less exactly like the one before it. This was a huge disappointment, especially considering the fairly vast scope of the game. While I also tend to grow tired of dungeon after dungeon that consists of 15 levels with unnecessarily long tunnels, it really bored me to go into a room, kill something, and then leave without any sort of substantial payoff.

The trading system was another intriguing concept but this one was also more or less killed, this time by bugs. This is yet another thing about Obsidian that drives me straight up the wall. I don’t expect any game to be perfect but Obsidian has an unfortunate tendency to release games that have some very serious issues with bugs. It was very frustrating to spend so much time making my way from one town to another only to find that, due to a bug with the storage system, the trade goods that I had shipped simply vanished into thin air. Yes, players did devise workarounds for this problem but the simple fact of the matter is that the problems shouldn’t have existed in the first place.

Last but not least was the thinness of the overall plot. This wouldn’t have been as obvious if it weren’t for the silent party members. Yes, being able to construct your own party from scratch could be rather nifty but I don’t really enjoy that level of micromanagement. I’d rather have interactive party members to help enhance and drive the central story than be running around with a bunch of drones of my own creation. It would have been nice to have the option of picking interactive party members or creating my own party from scratch. For the most part, I didn’t even think of the party members as having names. Instead, they were ciphers like: the mage, the rogue, the fighter… Obsidian’s writing can be brilliant at times but I feel this is the aspect with which the company is the laziest. The problem is that if you want to create a truly stellar RPG, you are not going to be able to do so by giving writing short shrift. There are hak ‘n’ slash games a-plenty for those who don’t care about story. I play RPGs because I expect to get some sort of story out of them.

Overall, I was very disappointed in this game. I think it would have been a lot of fun and a very strong game indeed if all the focus hadn’t been on the flashy aspects at the expense of the foundations that make an RPG enjoyable. I hope that Obsidian will take this under consideration in the future because I firmly believe they could be one of the best game developers out there if only they’d exert themselves to try a bit more.

2 Stars ray’s
I’m a big single person rpg fan. But the engine is showing its age. When you can’t get past a plot point without spending hours randomly trying random options, it becomes just not worth the effort.

3 Stars Its OK.
It’s a solid game but somewhat lacks in plot. In addition, I was able to get all the way to the end as Level 14, then was killed by the big boss easily. Scaling of the encounters would do a lot to help this…
