BioShock

BioShock lets you do the impossible as you explore a mysterious underwater city. When your plane crashes, you discover Rapture - an underwater Utopia torn apart by civil war. Caught between powerful forces and hunted down by genetically modified “splicers” and deadly security systems, you have to come to grips with a deadly, mysterious world filled with powerful technology and fascinating characters. As little girls loot the dead, and biologically mutated citizens ambush you at every turn. Now you’re trapped, caught in the middle of a genetic war that will challenge both your capacity to survive and your moral allegiance to your own humanity. Make meaningful and mature decisions that culminate in the grand question - do you exploit the innocent survivors of Rapture to save yourself - or risk all to become their savior?

5 Stars Creapy Fun
This game is so creepy, and so fun. It has everything you look for in a game, some creatures actually scare the crap of you! It’s awesome and adventure is at every step, a must play.

5 Stars Not your typical game
This has become one of my all time favorite games. When I started playing I wasn’t so into it, but as the game progressed it grew on me. The creepy atmosphere and great story are engrossing. Visually, I thought the game was absolutely amazing. It’s pretty cheap, so if you own a 360 you’d be dumb not to try it.

5 Stars Bioshock is amazing
It isn’t everyday that a FPS feels new and exciting but Bioshock pulled it off and I enjoyed every second of the game. I generally can point out minor flaws in just about anything but I can’t think of one thing in Bioshock I didn’t like. Perfect 10.

5 Stars Good game!
I bought this game as a Xmas present for my husband. He totally love it!.

He finished the game like in 2 weeks.

5 Stars Best……….game…………ever (in my opinion)
One day, way back, I’m going through a Blockbuster store with a movie and a game in one hand, and the money in the other. The cashier then recommends about this game called Bioshock, and stupidly i asked’ “what is it.” He tells me the background of the game, then i ask’ “do u have a copy?” Luckily, he did, so he switched my game with Bioshock and let the M rating thing pass. As soon as i get home, i open the game case and pop in the game to my faithful 360, then the titles appear and i hit new game, but for some reason, i put the brightness all the way up, and after the part when u arrive on the sub, i had no idea where that splicer went. I was somewhat scared, but also fascinated in the interior of the city of rapture. Later on, I didn’t think of this game as scary, rather…..fun, really. I thought it was a good $8 rental and 5 days later i bought it, and I was, and still am searching the depths of rapture. Can’t wait for B2. :)

Neverwinter Nights 2 Gold

May 24th, 2009

Neverwinter Nights 2 Gold

Neverwinter Nights 2 Gold combines Neverwinter Nights 2, the sequel to one of the best-selling and genre-defining role-playing games ever, and Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer, which allows you to advance to epic levels (above 20) and choose from over 100 spells.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Amazing
Neverwinter Nights 2 and its expansion make for hours upon hours of roleplaying gold (pardon the pun). The character creation and development is amazing, the NPCs are filled with life, and there are so many different paths to take to the end. Any fan of rpgs will love this game, plain and simple

3 Stars NWN Gold
I’ve been a huge NWN fan for a long time… It’s pretty obvious the 2nd one was made by a different person. The story-line is good and I really like the way they integrated multi-party adventuring groups and the different dialogue chains so that it really FEELS more like an RPG than just a one-person game.

I was less-than-happy about the actual game-play though - too different from the original. The camera mode drives me nuts at times, and I don’t like the fact that certain classes are restricted to only a few hair colors. Sounds a little silly, but I really liked the ability to individualize characters appearance more.

Overall though, it is a good game with in-depth characters and story-line that we’ve come to expect from NWN.

5 Stars Gold Edition feels like fun to me…
After such an unsatisfying experience purchasing Bioware’s NWN shortly after its release, and then having such a great experience when some friends encouraged me to pick it back up about two years later, I intentionally waited until the 2nd expansion pack for Atari’s NWN2 was released before putting my money on the counter.

After about eight hours game play, I’ve got to say, I’m really enjoying myself. I was ultimately a fan of NWN’s game mechanics, but the original campaign didn’t do much for me from a role playing perspective. “Quests” often felt like irritating errands, I had to choose from dull and uninvolved companions… the list goes on. NWN2 corrects much, but not all, of what I had found lacking.

The back story of NWN2 is typical of the fantasy genre - you are an adopted child coming of age in a small out of the way hamlet, knowing little of your family’s past. On the eve of a harvest festival, a mysterious attack suddenly thrusts you into the center of what is so far shaping up to be a fairly epic conspiracy.

Character creation and progression is highly flexible and follows the D&D 3.5 rules; those of you who like that gaming system will be pretty pleased. Being able to choose from multiple travel companions (once you encounter enough of them) allows you to pursue a highly specialized character and yet still construct a balanced party into which you fit well.

The graphics engine is serviceable, if not stellar, and produces some fairly immersive environments. Dripping roots poke through the ceiling of dank swamp caves, the fire in your adoptive father’s cottage casts a warming glow. Combat is a flashy, fast paced affair and fun to watch.

The camera does take some adjusting to - it literally took me four hours of play before I was comfortable with it and I still haven’t entirely warmed up to the mini-map. There are three basic camera modes from what I can tell (oddly, my manual mentions four), and you’ll find yourself flipping between the three to accomplish your tasks.

I haven’t experienced any load screen freezes in the single player mode and at this point. Also, and I admit this sheepishly, I haven’t noticed any real bugs. Playing online with four friends, we have run into some freeze issues that require reboots about every couple of hours. Save often in multiplayer.

I’m giving 5 stars here - not because I think it’s all it could be, but, based on the expectations other reviewers set, I’m actually pretty happy. While not the penultimate experience, for fans of the genre, I think the Gold Edition is worth the admission price.

3 Stars Fun…If you don’t mind the company?!
I’ll make this short and sweet. This game is very enjoyable and offers alot more than the previous game. However if you are like me and prefer RPG’s that only involve your character and your’s alone then you might find yourself frustrated at times having to deal with your lemming like followers who depending on your mood, love you or hate you. Think of it as a fickle democracy closesly following and judging you.

If you can get passed this all, and do like party RPG’s then this is one for the collection. To me, it’s just another good RPG, nothing special.

2 Stars DRM ruins this game.
The game itself is fun, when you can get it to run.

There is some issue about the Digital Rights Management that messes up quite often. The game will start about 1 in ten time trying, the rest of the time it gives you an error saying the CD cannot be authenticated.

Another situation where those who have obtained a non DRM copy (illegally) are enjoying the game whenever they choose, and those of us who purchased a legal copy have problems getting the game to start at all.

Recommendation:

Look elsewhere for a game, this one is too much trouble to get it to work.

4 Stars Supurb Graphics
The game is very good, the graphics and sound are excellent. Gameplay is engaging. I found the controls a bit clunky at first but I eventually got used to them.

4 Stars A Good Addition to the Genre
I won’t be covering the DRM issue in this review. Yes, it’s very annoying, but I’ve had no problems with it. Since I got it cheap and discounted, I’m not too worried.

It’s easy to think of this as similar to Knights of the Old Republic, a great game also by Bioware set in the Star Wars universe. However, a comparison between the two is rather interesting as it shows up the flaws and virtues of Mass Effect.

The gameplay and graphics of ME is very good. Everything is lovingly rendered, and it’s all very good indeed. Being a single player only game, ME lives or dies on its story. The story here is certainly inventive and original in setting. However, there are problems. For a start the villain is quite unimpressive - vanishing for 3/4 of the game. Even the surprise villain at the end isn’t great. Further more, your party members, with perhaps two exceptions are dull. I didn’t always like the personality of the KOTOR characters, but at least they had one!

The length of the story was also iffy. My first run-through where I did almost everything and all sidequests took about 40 hours. However, the campaign story and a single (necessary) sidequest took only 13 hours. Draw of that what you will, but there is quite a lot of padding involved.

Overall, ME is a good game, not as good as KOTOR, but very good even so. I rate it 4 because I enjoyed it.

5 Stars Possibly the best PC game of all time.
This game is simply amazing. It’s the first game you can actually feel like your living it. There is no “the end” to it as there are tons of places to explore and tons and I mean tons of lore behind it. The graphics are just as impressive as Crysis but runs 10 times better.

This game bumped Half-Life off my number 1 spot for best pc game I’ve ever played.

What makes this game amazing is the lore and the dedication the developers put into the story and why and how things are way they are. It’s like watching, err living a movie. This game has spawned a franchise for EA/Bioware as it’s already got more than 2 sequels on the way and a possible movie.

Defiantly check this baby out. I got mine off Steam which has no Securerom.

4 Stars As Close to real “Star Trek” game as you can get.
When I initially bought the game it would randomly crash. I put it aside for a couple of months and then came back to it one day. Once it was patched and I used a headset instead of the on board sound, it worked flawlessly. I personally found this to be one of the best games I have played and for the current price it is a killer deal. Have fun!

5 Stars MASS EFFECT for PC
I have played lots and lots of Video games and RolePlaying Games. This was like I was watching a Animated movie play out. the Cut Scenes were Flawless and the interaction Unique and Engaging.

I have Played other titles by the same Company And I wasn’t Dissappointed again!! Top knotch;and well done, without even the highest Video settings!!

I would recomend it to a Hardcore player as we as novice,. And Amazon’s cost and product supply Awesome!!!!

Lego Indiana Jones The Original Adventures

May 15th, 2009

Lego Indiana Jones The Original Adventures

Imagine being able to play with Legos without having to get all the pieces. Now you can with Lego Indiana Jones. It takes the fun and creative construction of LEGO and combines it with the wits, daring and non-stop action from the original cinematic adventures. With a tongue-in-cheek take on these original adventures, LEGO Indiana Jones follows Dr. Jones’s escapades through the jungles of South America to the mountaintops of India where you will build, battle and brawl your way through your favorite moments, from Indy’s entanglements with snakes to his dashing boulder run.

5 Stars My 8 year old grandaughter loves it. Great birthday gift!
I purchased this for my grandaughter for her 8th birthday. She loves her Wii and really likes this game. Lots of action and adventure!

4 Stars Fun and exiting for kids
My 5 year old loves to play this game. It is not too easy but easy enough to keep his interest. Good game for the money.

5 Stars Great fun for all ages
This game holds true for following the path of all three original movies. The Lego movie scenes are pretty comical. The control for this game is pretty good, you just have to get used to it a little bit. There are plenty of secret items to be found as you play the levels. It gives you the ability to play any character you earned or bought after you complete that level.

My 10 yr nephew also finds the game a lot of fun and we are curerntly competing to see who will beat the game first with the highest completed percentage. Two player function is something I haven’t used just yet but will once I beat the game.

I would highly recommend this game for it’s play & entertainment. You will not finish this game quickly, each level takes an average of an hour to complete and there are a bunch a levels to keep you busy.

5 Stars Great Choice
Just finished playing through the game… sort of a “sequel” to the lego star wars (same developers), there are some similarities (work through puzzles, find hidden objects, unlock characters by collecting lego studs) but some obvious differences. I would probably pick star wars over this one, simply because the franchise lends itself a little better (can’t do light sabers, laser blasters, and the force with indy!) and there are a couple quibbles -the heavy reliance on hand to hand, a lot without the whip, gets annoying. However, the puzzles are fun, some of those pieces are hard to find, and some of the levels are classic (my favorite is the final grail chapter). The tie-in to the movie is fun - hard to believe that raiders is now over 25 years old. If you like the indy movies and like lego star wars, pick this one up.

3 Stars Meh…It’s okay
This game is okay as far as the Lego series go. The Star Wars Lego series is better, in my opinion. I suppose if you have not played the Star Wars Lego games, this game will be more interesting and new. However, it is pretty much more of the same and gets boring rather quickly.

NBA 2K9

May 14th, 2009

NBA 2K9

The NBA franchise is back for its 10th season. NBA 2K9 is the premier basketball game for serious players, and delivers the most realistic, stylistic, and feature-rich simulation experience ever available in the NBA 2K franchise - from game play to graphics, presentation and online features.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Great Game
This is the first time i have gotten nba 2k series.

and im not dissapointed at all. the graphics are ok but they are at least WAY better than nba live. online play is pretty good but my only problem is i cant use the up-to-date roster on quickplay. i can only use em for online. im probably doing something wrong though due to recent addition

3 Stars new additions but same problems
NBA 2k9 is probably going to be the last nba 2k game there is going to be for ps2 and they sure gave it their last effort in making this game great. first with the newly added hot zones, it makes the gameplay more realistic with knowing where a person is hot and not. Next, along with that, in the 4th quarter, those players that care clutch (like kobe and lebron), their hot shot bar increases meaning they make more shots in clutch which is extremely impressive. even better, when a player is on fire, their bar goes into RED which means they make every single shot that they shoot which is AWESOME. another pro of this game is that association 2.0 is pretty cool with [...]interface. there’s player of the week, and headline news. you now have 4 scouts and there is training camp as well. the cons of this game: the glitches from 2k8 are sitll there.. many missed layups, dunks from the free throw line from everyone…and the association still doesn’t let new rookies score over 10 points per game for some reason. Overall if you thought nba 2k8 was fun, u’ll love 2k9 because its exactly hte same PLUS even better. for me, i was hoping the glitches were fixed so this game is fun but it could’ve been a better ending

4 Stars Good game
Decent video game. Very fun. Graphics are fine and players performance is accurate. I like Harlan commentating.

4 Stars Above the rim?
I was a big fan of the NBA live series, in fact that’s all I played in the past. I decided to try out the 2K series and I have not been disappointed. I can’t compare this game to previous installments since this is my first time but so far I’m having a ball. The gameplay is fast and exciting, the players look exactly like their counterparts and the music/sound effects adds to the addictive nature of this game.

On the downside, I can’t seem to be able to save a season or the association mode. Maybe I’m doing something wrong. In addition, its way to easy to pull off dunks from anywhere around the post. Attaining baskets and fouls is very easy as well, which shows that this game cators to the offensive oriented. Players miss uncontested layups which just hit the bottom of the iron, that can be quite frustrating. I’ve yet to figure out how to use the dual player feature, due to my recent induction of the franchise. The manual which comes with the game sucks as well, its useless, I guess 2k sports are catoring only to experienced 2K players.

With all that said, the game is highly addictive and lots of fun especially when playing with frineds. I definitely recommend this one, perhaps the last for the beloved PS2.

5 Stars great fun!!!
Great game, I love the game of basketball and this game is just like the real thing…
