Mirrors Edge

In a city where information is heavily monitored, agile couriers called Runners transport sensitive data away from prying eyes. In this seemingly utopian paradise, a crime has been committed and now you are being hunted. You are a Runner called Faith - and this innovative first-person action-adventure is your story. Mirror’s Edge delivers you straight into the shoes of this unique heroine as she traverses the vertigo-inducing cityscape, engaging in intense combat and fast paced chases. With a never before seen sense of movement and perspective, you will be drawn into Faith’s world. A world that is visceral, immediate, and very dangerous. Live or die? Soar or plummet? One thing is certain, in this city, you will learn how to run.

2 Stars Best game ever…but it will make you throw your controller at your TV.
Mirror’s Edge had the potential to be a great game, but it is flawed and I highly doubt there will be enough support behind the idea of a possible sequel. The presentation, the artwork, the ambient soundrack…almost everything about the game is beautiful until you actually start to play through it. It really is sad when productions are rushed and level designers and animators cut corners on projects like Mirror’s Edge. The concept was incredible, but the reality is kind of a joke, and this game is truly testament to the fact that some software houses need to spend as much time developing the playability and the engine as they do on the presentation and the cut scenes. This is the kind of game that makes even HDTV owners want to impulsively throw their PS3 controllers at the screen, due to several situations that demand 30+ attempts at making the same jump over and over again. Save your money for other games, or just buy a William Gibson or Neal Stephenson book instead–it would be a much better value!

3 Stars Visually fantastic….game play eh
Visually, graphically, and auditorially, the game is awesome BUT…the game play itself disproves the definition of insanity. So many times you do the same thing over and over and over and finally it works?!? I love a challenging game but this one is unnecessarily just plain hard. I bought it for my gf because it was different than the same old first person shoot everything in your way type game but she gave up on it before she even finished the tutorial. Her deal not the game’s. Any way, if the controls were eased up just a tad bit I think this would be a run-away hit. I have read very similar reviews since buying it so I know I am not the only one who feels this way. Still for a game in the $30 range it is well worth it.

4 Stars Fun Game
My husband and I both take turns playing this game. It’s a lot of fun but frustrating at times when you can’t figure out where to go next. The game looks great, it looks so real a times. Great buy.

5 Stars Mirrors Edge Review
The game is awsome. Basically you defy gravity by jumping from building to building and running from the cops while trying to solve a murder your sister has been framed for. The interface is easy to learn and you get into the game play within a few minutes. The game is part action adventure and part puzzle solver although the puzzle solver part is maybe only 10% of the game. The puzzles are more of where and how to go to reach you objective rather than actual puzzles. I would recommend the game to anyone looking for a crazy twist on a first person shooter, minus the gun. Wild!

4 Stars Cool but tedious
The game is really cool looking and really fun to play, but it gets somewhat tedious by about… the 4th chapter. Honestly, you do the same thing you did in the earlier chapters but the jumps and leaps get progressively more difficult. I like the pace of the game and the stylistic approach. Definitely worth buying if you want nice visuals.

Resistance 2 puts you in the heroic role of Sgt. Nathan Hale. View larger.

This sequel introduces several new Chimeran enemies with a host of new powers. View larger.

Resistance 2 takes up right where Resistance: Fall of Man left off. Hale is kidnapped by a black ops group in London and forced to Iceland for research testing. The full scope of what happens in Iceland is a mystery, but the game reveals that as Hale wrestles with the insidious Chimera war machine, he must also battle the virus raging inside his body that threatens to transform him into the very creature he fights against.

The Return of the Chimera
The Chimera are the main enemies of the Resistance franchise. For those new to the story, it is believed that the Chimera are of extraterrestrial origin. Yet, it is known that their army expands by infecting humans with a virus that transforms humans into Chimera while inside a cocoon. These creatures are much stronger than humans, and they usually have multiple yellow eyes. They have remarkable healing abilities and thrive in very cold temperatures, which has led them to alter the Earth’s climate to a much lower temperature that better suits their habitat requirements.

Resistance 2 introduces several new Chimeran enemies with a host of new powers. A few new characters include the Chameleon, a creature that can cloak itself completely and kill a player in one, destructive blow, and the Grim, which are a terrifying species that attack in hordes.

The Battle Moves to the United States
After the brief opening scenes in London and then Iceland, game play jumps ahead two years and across the globe to San Francisco. Giant, mile-long motherships slowly cruise through the skies, demolishing the city with fiery beams. The city is burned and mangled, and it appears that there will be little to no survivors. As the battle continues across the United States, you’re sure to encounter many new, deranged, and much more powerful enemies.

In Chicago, you’ll be joined by a squad of soldiers, all carrying different weapons. To survive and move through the level, you’ll need to work together, moving from cover to cover, setting up your squad in a smart and defensive manner. These are just a few examples of the challenging levels you’ll encounter as you battle your way across the country to save humankind. And if you’re hoping for new weapons, Resistance 2 won’t leave you disappointed. The US-based campaign is loaded with tons of new weapons to enhance the overall game play and first-person shooter experience.

Online game play Goes BIG
Powered by Insomniac Games’ third-generation PlayStation 3 technology, Resistance 2 delivers several console gaming breakthroughs. Most impressive are the stand-alone, class-based, online co-operative campaign mode that can accommodate up to eight players, and the mind-blowing, 60-player, squad-based online competitive multiplayer battle fest. This unprecedented 60-player option could revolutionize online multiplayer game play and is sure to provide countless hours of action-packed fun.

Resistance 2, set in the United States, is loaded with new weapons, enemies, and an unprecedented online gaming experience.

User Ratings and Reviews

3 Stars not great
I loved Resistance, I played it on all difficulty levels, got all the bonus awards. I can’t wait to start the resistance 2, but it is not as good as the first one. So, if you are fan of the first one, may just rent the 2nd one, I can’t imagine I will play it again.

1. graphic is not good as the first one. I have to turn the LCD all the way up on brightness and contrast to see, my normal setting, the other soliders looks like a glob of color, I can’t really tell.

2. the story line is not as good as the first one.

3. 2 guns? running out the bullets all the time, no fun.

4 Stars fall of man was better
I would have liked more if cooperative mode was like the resistance fall of man.

2 Stars Resistance 2 - kid stuff
Playable - but not great by a longshot.

Very simplistic controls, Energy Weapons imo are boring here and in Fallout 3, seems like a game for younger gamers, not adults, green goo, no gore and little memorable animation of weapon strikes.

Rented this game for 5 dollars for five days, played through the whole game in 3, little replay value. Boring, repetitive. And you are supposed to be fighting ‘frightening alien invaders’. Never was I surprised, or frightened even once. They look like goofy cartoon aliens a teenager would draw. Again - Deadspace would be the obvious recommendation IMO if you want to shoot at something that is a frightening alien.

There is no comparison in complexity of controls / replayability /graphics quality (1080p not 720p- which is a huge difference - actually 1080p is DOUBLE the clarity / information of 720p if you didn’t know, but you won’t see it unless you have a real 1080p monitor).

Very much overhyped, visuals were ok, not amazing like a killzone 2, DeadSpace, Fallout 3. So generally would be very disappointed if I had purchased.

5 Stars Love it !!!
Best game ever played. The actual game was ok, but online is where the fun begins. First real online game I’ve played and can’t get enough.

5 Stars better than the original
Resistance: Fall of Man was excellent but Resistance 2 is a definite improvement over the original. It’s much more colorful, the terrain is more varied, there are new and interesting enemies, and the story is better and more fleshed out. I did not have a problem with the two weapons at a time limitation because the game presents plenty of chances to change weapons. Overall, this is a fun, easy shooter that’s worth paying full price.

4 Stars Mindless FUN
This is not a very complicated game. It is your basic hack and slash game. There are really no strategies involved, just button smashing. It is perfect for times when you just don’t want to think and strategize too much after a long day. It is fun to power-up and upgrade weapons to enhance the game play.

NOTE: If you are looking for a DEEP game, look elsewhere!!

4 Stars Why change if people keep buying?
Sure Koei keeps releasing the same game with new skins and slight game play variation every few months. If you played one Koei game and liked it, chances are you’ll like any Koei game. I’ve played roughly 6 of the various Warriors games (Samurai, Dynasties, Orochi, etc..) and they are pretty much the same game over and over. You start off with a goal like say, save all the peasants, and then mow down 100’s of enemies getting that goal completed. Repeat until the end. That said, I like them. Don’t ask me why. They are just mindless button mashers. I love leveling up characters and every one has plenty of characters to level up. Try one out, if you enjoy it, pick up some of the others. Most older ones can be had cheap now, and since there’s not much difference between the old and the new, you’ll get the idea how the games play and save some $$ doing it.

5 Stars Great game, much better then the first one
I love the dynasty warriors series (except dynasty warriors 6) and have been playing them since dynasty 2. the whole concept of warriors orichi and controlling 3 different characters is awesome. i found the warriors orichi 2 to be much better then the first one.

4 Stars Mindless Fun
There’s just something fun about being a superhero surrounded my regular people. The plot is about as thick as rain and the story translates worse than a ’80s Jackie Chan movie, but the game is just a lot of fun. It’s just pure, repetitive, button mashing fun. I think it’s because you’re this super-powerful guy that makes it entertaining, and the level-up/improvement system along with ever increasing difficulties keeps you coming back for more.

5 Stars HD YAY!
Thank goodness this is available on the 360! Since PS3 is not backwards compatible, I would not have been able to play the PS2 version. But Microsoft saved the day! I love it! Great game!

5 Stars big daddy issues
halls stained with blood, pipes leaking, broken walls and cracked glass. the badly lite areas set a tone in Rapture unlike any other game, bioshock is a rare FPS (first person shooter). you find you’re self trapped in a under water city thats gone to hell, Rapture would have been the future had it not been for a great power struggle. void of any cutscenes the game lets you take full control from begining to end, the story is unlike any other and will leave you breathless. bioshock is a highly review game for one reason, its greatness is unlike any other. hacking, poers, weapons, and a stoy unlike any other will keep you wanted more and more. bioshock is well wroth what ever you pay for it, you will play it over and over till you feel like you have lived in Rapture

5 Stars “No Gods. No Kings. Only Men.”
I really enjoyed this game for it’s originality which is something you don’t see much in games these days and the story just sucks you in. Oh, and I can’t wait for Bioshock 2.

5 Stars This is one of the best ever!!!
This game rocks!!! Great story line, graphics and game play. There are 2 versions to the ending & I can’t wait to play it again to have the bad ending. For the good ending you can only harvest 1 little girl…you’ll see.

5 Stars Simply Amazing
back when this game came out I saw nothing special at all in it, i even played the demo on my PS3 and on before when it came out. i even played the a level in the full game at my friends and still didn’t care for it. But after playing Fallout 3 and getting a platinum on it :} i could relate this game to it. My friend is letting me borrow it now and I have already almost platinum it to! I just have to get survivor mode and all the audio diaries. its way hard without the vita chambers. but the game is sick as hell guys. It was the same way with the first resistance game for me to. i played the demo and hated it… but once i borrowed the game i loved it! give this game a good try fo sho!

4 Stars It is TOO scary!
I bought this game based on some of these reviews, but what nobody has mentioned yet is that this game is horrific–but many may actually like that. I will pay more attention to ratings, as they do describe the gore and mature content.

Simply put, Bioshock is a horror game.

If you’re in for a really good scare, this is a perfect game for you. If the lights are out….well, you must have nerves of steel to play it.

Neverwinter Nights 2 Gold

May 24th, 2009

Neverwinter Nights 2 Gold

Neverwinter Nights 2 Gold combines Neverwinter Nights 2, the sequel to one of the best-selling and genre-defining role-playing games ever, and Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer, which allows you to advance to epic levels (above 20) and choose from over 100 spells.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Amazing
Neverwinter Nights 2 and its expansion make for hours upon hours of roleplaying gold (pardon the pun). The character creation and development is amazing, the NPCs are filled with life, and there are so many different paths to take to the end. Any fan of rpgs will love this game, plain and simple

3 Stars NWN Gold
I’ve been a huge NWN fan for a long time… It’s pretty obvious the 2nd one was made by a different person. The story-line is good and I really like the way they integrated multi-party adventuring groups and the different dialogue chains so that it really FEELS more like an RPG than just a one-person game.

I was less-than-happy about the actual game-play though - too different from the original. The camera mode drives me nuts at times, and I don’t like the fact that certain classes are restricted to only a few hair colors. Sounds a little silly, but I really liked the ability to individualize characters appearance more.

Overall though, it is a good game with in-depth characters and story-line that we’ve come to expect from NWN.

5 Stars Gold Edition feels like fun to me…
After such an unsatisfying experience purchasing Bioware’s NWN shortly after its release, and then having such a great experience when some friends encouraged me to pick it back up about two years later, I intentionally waited until the 2nd expansion pack for Atari’s NWN2 was released before putting my money on the counter.

After about eight hours game play, I’ve got to say, I’m really enjoying myself. I was ultimately a fan of NWN’s game mechanics, but the original campaign didn’t do much for me from a role playing perspective. “Quests” often felt like irritating errands, I had to choose from dull and uninvolved companions… the list goes on. NWN2 corrects much, but not all, of what I had found lacking.

The back story of NWN2 is typical of the fantasy genre - you are an adopted child coming of age in a small out of the way hamlet, knowing little of your family’s past. On the eve of a harvest festival, a mysterious attack suddenly thrusts you into the center of what is so far shaping up to be a fairly epic conspiracy.

Character creation and progression is highly flexible and follows the D&D 3.5 rules; those of you who like that gaming system will be pretty pleased. Being able to choose from multiple travel companions (once you encounter enough of them) allows you to pursue a highly specialized character and yet still construct a balanced party into which you fit well.

The graphics engine is serviceable, if not stellar, and produces some fairly immersive environments. Dripping roots poke through the ceiling of dank swamp caves, the fire in your adoptive father’s cottage casts a warming glow. Combat is a flashy, fast paced affair and fun to watch.

The camera does take some adjusting to - it literally took me four hours of play before I was comfortable with it and I still haven’t entirely warmed up to the mini-map. There are three basic camera modes from what I can tell (oddly, my manual mentions four), and you’ll find yourself flipping between the three to accomplish your tasks.

I haven’t experienced any load screen freezes in the single player mode and at this point. Also, and I admit this sheepishly, I haven’t noticed any real bugs. Playing online with four friends, we have run into some freeze issues that require reboots about every couple of hours. Save often in multiplayer.

I’m giving 5 stars here - not because I think it’s all it could be, but, based on the expectations other reviewers set, I’m actually pretty happy. While not the penultimate experience, for fans of the genre, I think the Gold Edition is worth the admission price.

3 Stars Fun…If you don’t mind the company?!
I’ll make this short and sweet. This game is very enjoyable and offers alot more than the previous game. However if you are like me and prefer RPG’s that only involve your character and your’s alone then you might find yourself frustrated at times having to deal with your lemming like followers who depending on your mood, love you or hate you. Think of it as a fickle democracy closesly following and judging you.

If you can get passed this all, and do like party RPG’s then this is one for the collection. To me, it’s just another good RPG, nothing special.

2 Stars DRM ruins this game.
The game itself is fun, when you can get it to run.

There is some issue about the Digital Rights Management that messes up quite often. The game will start about 1 in ten time trying, the rest of the time it gives you an error saying the CD cannot be authenticated.

Another situation where those who have obtained a non DRM copy (illegally) are enjoying the game whenever they choose, and those of us who purchased a legal copy have problems getting the game to start at all.

Recommendation:

Look elsewhere for a game, this one is too much trouble to get it to work.
