3 Stars Great FUN! Until You Realize It’s The Same Everytime You Play….
This game is great, you run around and blast zombies. Great fun for online, actually, online experience is pretty neat since you can talk to people.
However, you’ll soon realize one thing:
1. Is this it?
You’ll realize that all you really do is the same thing every single time OVER and OVER again. You run around shooting endless amount of zombies. Sounds like fun and I admit, it is fun for a week or two, then its just boring as heck. It’s not like you’re actually trying to beat some sorta game with an ending, it has no real ending basically! It ends fast and has like 4 different scenarios to play under, but after you finish them all, you feel like deja vu….
Rent it for awhile, great fun at first, then it gets boring.
5 Stars great 2-player game!
I’m a casual “old school” type of player. But I love to get together with friends occasionally and play multi-player games. Left 4 Dead has become one of my all-time favorites. The gameplay is just phenomenal. The graphics and sounds really suck you in, and the controls are “tight”.
One of the things that I find terrific about this game is the way the computer players (i.e. “goodguys”) are integrated into the game. They play along side you, do really smart tactical things (most of the time), make useful comments (along with other more “colorful” comments) etc. You really develop an affection for them after awhile. Another very cool feature is that if a player drops out, the game senses this after a short while, and “demotes” that player to being an NPC. Then when and if the player returns, he or she is free to resume their game by taking back control from the NPC they were previously playing.
The game is filled with really thoughtful multi-player touches like that which keeps the game fun. I highly recommend it!
5 Stars Left 4 Dead
This is a great game. There really isn’t anything else like it out there. You would find it hard to find any problems with it. The only thing I notice, is the lack of developed story; but I guess that when you get down to it, this is a multiplayer game. The fact that they are releasing FREE extra content (new levels and play modes) leaves no doubt that this was a great purchase.
4 Stars Left 4 Dead
This game would have been more enjoyable with an actual storyline to follow. However, it started you in one the four campaigns of your choice and you had to go through each safehouse to progress all the while dealing with swarms of zombies. As others have stated on here it would have been nice to get the background on the characters you play. Maybe a little information on what happened to cause the populations to turn savage. Maybe it could have had you run into a few of the other survivors that you read messages about in the saferooms, but that opportunity was lost in this game. There are a lot of MAYBES and WHAT-IFs that could have been explored for this game to make it great but those ideas were Left 4 Dead!!
One of the only things that made this enjoyable was the ability to play through it with three of your friends. There’s nothing like hearing your friends shouting to you as they are overwhelmed by the horde because they were dumb enough to venture off by themselves. Then there’s having your other friends who stick together, work off each other and progress through the game at the slowest members pace; which enabled us to NOT have anyone Left 4 Dead.
The versus was alright. Merely rerunning through the campaign missions, but this time having to avoid human players as the special infected. This was entertaining the first few times, but I absolutely hated playing as the infected so when it was my teams turn to go after the survivors the multiplayer was boring although it was minutely fun to pounce on unsupecting humans occasionally. Needless to say I don’t play the versus anymore, the enterainment value dropped after the first day.
4 Stars Best co-op game I’ve played
My wife loves to play co-op games, especially when it comes to killing zombies. This ended up being perfect for us. I tired to play it on my own but it just didn’t cut it. I can’t say anything that hasn’t already been said, just that this is bar none, hands down, without a doubt the most fun I’ve had playing co-op. Yea, there is really no story and I’d love to see more guns (the hunting rifle is essentially useless when you’ve got two dozen zombies swarming you), but if you’re not a game snob and you just want to have some yell out loud fun with a friend then definitely give this a try.
Also, this is a really fast paced game, I tried to play RE5 right afterward and it felt like I was walking through mud everything was moving so slow.
I gave it 4 stars because of the lack of different guns. There really isn’t that noticeable of a difference between the guns (I can take out a zombie across the street with a shot gun the same as I can with a hunting rifle equipped with a zoom scope). I would love to have to be able to make a real decision when it comes to which gun I wanted. As it is it’s 90% aesthetic, there are differences but they are negligible.
