3 Stars No more family fun
I made a mistake. Having owned an earlier game in EA’s NASCAR series for the PS2, I bought NASCAR 09 for my son’s new Xbox360 without looking at the box and learning that it’s a 1-Player game.

You see, we used to have a lot of fun racing against each other. But, in this iteration, that’s not possible. You can race strangers on-line, but you can’t race a member of your own family in the living room?

For what it is, it’s okay. The graphics are much prettier than I’m used to, and the driving is more difficult than in the older version. I like the new view that puts you in the cockpit of the car looking at the driver’s hands on the steering wheel - the most realistic of the views but hard to use.

It’s a decent simulation, but I miss a two-player mode.

2 Stars The Create a Car feature ALMOST saves this one
It seems that EA can never get it right with their games, and probably never will as long as they hold the exclusive license to America’s top motorsport (thankfully, they no longer have their greedy mitts on the F1 license, now posessed by Codemasters). This year, they seemed to be too lazy…or too tight wadded to acquire car licenses…so they added the create a car feature, making the players make the cars the way they should’ve been made in the first place.

Now…this feature is good and all…but its about the only good thing in the entire game. Car handling is still far from perfected, even with the inclusion of two different racing styles. The AI are still dumb as rocks, and will give you little to no room, and are almost impossible to work with at tracks where working together is a necessity (i.e. drafting at Daytona…which is a joke in this years game).

Most of the bugs online have been fixed, but EA decided rather than hosting all the custom paintschemes so that all playes could see each others cars, you must be a friend of a player to see his/her customized ride. Major bummer.

My suggestion: if you LOVE NASCAR, and absolutely positively need the most up to date edition, go for it. However, if you are just looking for a fun racing game, I suggest you look elsewhere (Grid and Burnout, while they are arcade racers, are a heck of a lot of fun online).

3 Stars Fun but very bugy
The game play is much improved over last year. The 09 version has many more driver assists, so a new player can start racing without continuously crashing into walls and other cars. So this year I’m actually enjoying playing the game. I like the racing in close quarters with other cars, which you don’t get to do in most other racing games.

I’m only giving 3 stars because the game has a ridiculous amount of bugs in the career mode. It will say that I haven’t met my sponser’s goals, and then immediately it will say that I have. I’m continouosly having to go to the paint shop to redo my cars because the game doesn’t think I have the right one. It says I can load a car from disk in the paint shop, but no. There are save options, but no load. The game will often lose my paint selection, giving me the awesome gray on gray look. Again forcing me to go back to the paint shop.

Nice attempt EA. Maybe next time you should try doing some testing though.

2 Stars NASCAR - bite me
First - I love racing games. I love all kinds of racing games. But NASCAR has been a terrible game since it first came out years ago. Now here we are with NASCAR 09 and the graphic engine is horrid. I thought I was playing Pong. It was sad. But the graphics for the real NASCAR driver (Jeff Gordon I think) shown in the garage ever ten seconds is almost life like.

Really EA. That is the best you could do? The racing is not bad, it is fairly realistic. The game is hard to move around in though and there is not a lot of intuitive steps for a non-NASCAR person.

WOW, I can’t wait for NASCAR 10 so I can waste another $20.

3 Stars Nascar Fan
This game will give you an all new respect for the real drivers. This is not a game for the average driver. Even the beginner setting are to much for me. I have both the 08 and 09 games and I do like the lay out of the game and the caracteristics of the 08 game just a little better.

4 Stars Patience
NASCAR 09 Hello, in this game you just don’t hold it wide open hit the inside and bounce off cars to get to the front and not wreck. All i got to say is patience .Don’t get me wrong i like to play by the rules, it a lot of fun. If you want to get right in to racing. Go to chase for the nascar sprint cup in season mode, vet or leg. you can change mid season. This is where the difference is than the other games, you will learn right away on how realistic the gas is ( if using a wheel and petal) you can turn a car around with just a touch, and you the same. Clean racing saves the car at the end. All the effort in this game is in the drivers perspective, remember this is the c.o.t car. most of the time it offloads good, there is alot of adjustments you can make. all in all this game is alot of fun, remember easy on the gas. You have to get used to it, then after that let the fun begin. Downfalls, I wish they would bring back driver intros and personal driver stats like they had in 2003 and 2004. There is alot of other stuff you can do, like family play, test and tune, just to name a few. I just like to get right into it. Hope this was a little helpfull, Thank you…..

5 Stars NASCAR PS2 2009 rocks
Every year the new Nascar game is a little bit better. I get my husband the new one each year and he just uses the heck out of them. He said he’s played it to death and completed the championship series where you go to every track twice. He loves it.

2 Stars Why give up everything for Carl?
the past three NASCAR games had almost all the drivers except for Carl Edwards, so in EA’s eternal wisdom almost every Nationwide and Truck drivers are gone ,but there is a Carl Edwards. Big freaking whoop. To hell with Carl, I want all the drivers from 08 back.Or 07,06,05, Why are all the drivers missing? are they all a bunch of bastards like Carl? before I didn’t know why they had everyone but Carl, but now I want everyone back and you can keep Carl the hell out.I’m very disappointed in NASCAR 09, they had a chance to make the most awesome nascar game ever or at least make a decent game but that is too much to ask, Promoting and advertising this game is the curse of Jeff Gordon. The gameplay is fine, the end.

2 Stars Don’t Be Fooled By Decription of The Game
Ok what the decription of this game says is bogus. If you played Nascar 07, be prepared for a simular game. There is NO own the track mode for the ps2. You start out with the Whelen Series like always. The videos they talk about, NOT in this game. All you get from Gordon are emails. He does not verbally talk to you. I think whoever wrote the decription for this game has it mixed up with the well detailed version for the Xbox 360, cause all that sure isn’t in this game. PS2 made a cheap version of Nascar 09 so if you’re buying this game for hopes of all the videos and own the track, you’re gonna be mislead cause it’s not in this game.

5 Stars EXCELENTE !!!!
les recomiendo este juego… apenas lo compr?por internet el domingo y el jueves un amigo me lo trajo desde Miami… excelentes gr?ficos, jugabilidad, muy preciso en los movimientos… me gust?muchisimo jejeje…

5 Stars The best
This is a great driving game. 2 players local console. More online. Graphics are very good and driving is realistic. Many tiers and lots of tracks. Graphics and driving features along with 2 players make it THE BEST over 1 player games.

1 Star Meh
Maybe I just don’t like racing games… but I think this game sucks. It came “free” with a package including a headset (the Microsoft one that last about a day before becoming a worthless piece of garbage), a chatpad, a 1-year XBox-Live subscription… which to me means “this game sucks so bad we have to give it away because nobody in their right mind would want to pay money for it. Hey… I’m going to take this one to GameStop and unload it for maybe $1 worth of store credit. BRILLIANT!!!

If you’re into suck… by all means buy this, because it’s chock full of sucky badness.

4 Stars Well done game, different from what I’m used to
I’ve played a lot of racing games through the years, but this is my first time playing the PGR series. My favorite series are Mario Kart and Burnout. This game plays very differently, with an emphasis on very tight, difficult turns. I’ve always slowed down on turns when necessary, but this game takes it to an extreme. The races are won on your ability to handle sharp corners.

The graphics are beautiful, and handling in snow feels like you’re driving in snow. The weather aspect feels all too realistic.

3 Stars great game
this game has everything you wanted for a racing game… beside it’s crashing effect, which is just like the old NFS games…no matter how hard you crash, the max damage is the windshield break. other than that, this game is great.

4 Stars FUN, FUN, FUN!!
Wow,This game takes me back to good old arcade days! this game is so easy to play. Not like all these newer games which have to many controls to mess with. Dont get me wrong, its not cheesy. I love The Power up feature and the special features you can use in the field. The Graphics are cool too! the only draw back is you cant play a season or at least if you can i havent figured it out yet. Lots of fun!!

4 Stars Logging a Lot of Time on This Game
My son is a baseball fanatic, not video game, but playing the real thing. He has logged a ton of time with this game. This is an arcade style game, nothing terribly realistic about it (guessing the MLB games are more like watching real live baseball). He likes the whole turbo pitch and hit concept. Scoring a ton of runs. The homerun derby prize.

The graphics are decent. Controls are dirt simple. Learning curve is very small.

Given that this game is on deep sale right now, it’s a very good bargain. I call it a great investment, many hours of fun.

4 Stars Much better then expected
The game had not been out that long, and was already in the cheap bin, so I was expecting a below average game. I picked it up anyway, and i am glad I did. If you like baseball I would suggest picking it up.

I won’t go into great detail as others have, but to me it was well worth the smaller price tag.

4 Stars Good Fun
I love this game, unlike other games out there. The learning curve is short, I was up and playing without reading the manual. The game is easy to play and fun for all ages.

3 Stars The Bigs
its a fun game for a while, but it gets old pretty fast, completing the rookie challenge is not as difficult as it could have been, but for a arcade style baseball game to play with friends, or online, i would say that it is worth it to pick it up, and overall a fun game play experience.
