Wanted Weapons of Fate

Wanted Weapons of Fate

Based on Universal Pictures’ action-thriller Wanted, this game promises to deliver the same fantastic visual style, in-your-face attitude and edge-of-your-seat action as the blockbuster motion picture. The game continues the story of hero Wesley Gibson, picking up the action where the film leaves off and creating an entirely new chapter exploring both Wesley’s journey to becoming an unmatched berassassin and the epic fiction of “The Fraternity.” Featuring intense third-person action, the Wanted video game will take combat to the next level with iconic moves — such as “Curving Bullets” and “Assassin Time” — drawn directly from the film, as well as an innovative, multi-layered cover mechanic.

4 Stars pretty good, albeit short
Well i got wanted on a saturday played it for about an hour and a half, put it down and picked it up on monday for about 3 hours or so and i finished it, yup its that short. This game is good however if you want a straight up shooter thats pretty fun to play and has some interesting moments in it then i say go for this. Graphics are ok not the best but good and the story is good to anyone who has seen the movie or read the comics. (although the movie was vastly different than the comics)So in my opinion this is a fun short game i did finish it but i am not trading it in as i would like to go thru it again and i dont do that to often.

2 Stars Wasted potential
Translating Mark Millar and J.G. Jones’ Wanted comic to film was one thing, but translating the bullet-laden flick to the video game world seems like a match made in Heaven. Sadly, Wanted: Weapons of Fate is really nothing else but wasted potential. Taking place after the film, you play as Wesley and take down hordes of baddies. The whole curving the bullet technique is here, and is a fun little trick to pull off at first as well. Once you get the hang of it though, as well as the game’s controls, Wanted ends up being a pretty boring and easy affair. The fact that the game is so short that you could finish it in an afternoon doesn’t help matters any, and neither does the fact that there’s no online play either. The game looks decent enough, there’s multiple difficulties, and there’s some unlockables including alternate costumes and the like, but once you play through Wanted: Weapons of Fate, there really isn’t any reason to go back. Were this a budget-priced game, it would definitely be worth checking out, but alas, it isn’t, and considering the elements that could have translated so well into the action video game world, the game just ends up coming up so short. All in all, Wanted: Weapons of Fate is worth a rental for fans of the film, but other than that, it’s best left on the shelf.

4 Stars caught me by suprise
i rented this game the other night just to see how it was. i wasnt expecting much, just because i havent heard too much about it. i will start by saying this game is up there as one of the funnest games I have ever played. the slow motion scenes and curving your bullets is just pure fun. the graphics arent the greatest and the language is alil too much, i didnt mind it, but i can see moms complaining. game was short but the levels were fun. the trophies are good too. if youre a fan of the comics or movie, i reccomend this. deff worth a rental.

4 Stars Supervillians doing things without consequences
Premise

*Taking place after the film “Wanted,” based on the graphic novel, you play Wesley Gibson and his father as they confront other factions of the Fraternity of assasins.

The Good Things

*The video/sound quality was much better than I expected. It’s still not as great as other games out there (like “Kill Zone 2″), but it is still a pleasure to watch.

*Includes some in-game unlockable content.

*Controls are easy to master and intuitive.

*Gameplay is relatively easy and linear. It’s nothing terribly challenging, but offers the uniqueness of using slow-motion and bullet-curving powers.

*Level designs are good. Everything has strong textures and details. Some areas look as authentic as they should, and even includes some locales from the movie.

*Finally, you can use the cheat codes that were hidden in the “Wanted” special features of the DVD and Blu-Ray. It’s a bit of a marketing ploy, I know, but now my collection feels complete.

*The story is not bad, and seems to jive with both the movie and comic book well.

*Characters are good. You can expect the same bad attitude that the movie had (but not quite as bad as the comic). You also get to see more costumed villians around.

*Music is good (same as the movie).

*Has trophies.

The Bad Things

*No multiplayer.

*Had one or two graphical errors.

*Not for kids; rated M for bloody violence and lots of language.

The Questionable Things

*As said above, the gameplay is easy and linear, almost to the point where it offers very little challenge. I don’t mind, but it could be seen as overly simple or unoriginal.

At first, when playing the demo, I thought this was just another typical shooter with some horrid graphics. In truth, though, the game has good graphics and the gameplay is fun enough. Above all, I enjoyed the movie too darn much to pass up the game, and now I’m addicted to it. If you’re looking for something groundbreaking, you might be dissapointed. Otherwise, you might enjoy this.

5 Stars Pretty awesome game missing one thing…
Wanted: Weapons of Fate for PS3 is an awesome game in my opinion. It is fun, action packed, and the way the story changes from present Wesley Gibson to past Cross and back again is really a treat for fans of the movie and comic book alike.

The controls are really easy to get used to, only took me about 30 seconds, especially since there is a tutorial showing you all of the movies in the game. I love the way you can curve bullets, especially while playing Cross with the semi-automatic. Gameplay is very smooth and quick with the exception of when your playing a ‘boss’. I will say this; it is difficult to know when your life is low unless you pay attention to the brightness and color scheme of the screen. When the screen goes gray, you are about to die… but if you take cover for a couple of seconds, your life builds again.

Enough praise, now here is my one gripe.. I wish the game had a multiplayer. I know so many people that buy this game will only dream of a massive online multiplayer experience where you get to curve bullets, design your own assasin, and hit the open terrain in crazy bullet flying online action. Even if no online multiplayer at least shoot for an online co-op where a friend can join in on the game sort of in a time crisis kind of way.

Overall, I think this is an awesome game. I have no complaints as of yet. I played it for a couple hours last night and am ready to plop down on the couch for some more bullet bending fun. Pick this game up if you want to be entertained and liked either Stronghold and/or Bourne Conspiracy as a few aspects from those games seep through the cracks of Wanted: Weapons of Fate. You will not be disappointed with this game if you want to have a fun gaming experience.

WARNING: THIS GAME IS IN NO WAY SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN UNDER 16 I’D SAY OR THOSE OFFENDED BY LANGUAGE OR GORE.

The Chronicles of Riddick Assault on Dark Athena

Expanding on the blockbuster prequel videogame in the Riddick franchise, this expanded version brings back the proven gameplay and adds in a number of new features for next-gen consoles. Starring Vin Diesel as the titular anti-hero Riddick (who has heightened sensory abilities that allow him to see and hear beyond normal human ranges), you must break out of the galaxy’s most deadly prison in this compelling 1st person action experience.

5 Stars The Furyan inside me…
I absolutely love this game.. The sequel to the Xbox Original Smash, Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena was a must have in my library.. Granted, I am a Riddick fan, as well as a fan of Vin Diesel’s movies, I went in wanting to love this game, but I found that wasn’t hard to do at all. I beat the original on the Xbox at least 7 times, and decided, what the hell, I’ll beat it one more time for kicks. Loved the remastered version, and started on Dark Athena a couple days ago. My favorite weapons are by far his Ulaks (those knive things on the cover), they make for some pretty brutal, bloody, mayhem. Stealth is not as much of an importance as in Escape from Butcher Bay, as I went around running at people with my Ulaks’ slashing wildly. It really is a brutal game, and Riddick is really just somebody you don’t wanna F*** with. I won’t go into too many details of the game, as I don’t want to give anything away, but I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. It is truly something special, and will awaken the Furyan inside all of us..

2 Stars Disappointing, too many bugs
I’ve played and beaten about a dozen games this year and Chronicles of Riddick was the least fun save for Dark Sector. However, it is fun in a way. I was going to give it 3 stars, but decided on 2 stars because as I was making a pros and cons list, I had difficulty thinking of the pros. Why did I want to continue and beat the game? Anyway, here’s some pros and cons.

PROs:

1. Voice acting…just like the movies…over-the-top, but compelling.

2. Escaping. The prospect of escaping was fresh (even for part of the game being 5 years old).

3. That’s it.

CONs:

1. The map. The map sucks. It doesn’t tell you where you are, or specifically how to get anywhere. As a result it’s super easy to get lost, and when I say lost, I mean an hour in the wrong direction.

2. AI is terrible. If you enter a room and people start shooting at you, you can usually back out of the room and come back in and the room is ‘reset’. The AI forgets about you if you leave the room. Even if you stay in the room, the AI often stays in one place, or if they want to move, it’s side-to-side for about 10 feet.

3. Graphics. So poor. Even for the new Assault on Dark Athena (which is the same graphics anyway)

4. Unresponsive controls. Sometimes the gun won’t shoot even if you press R2. Sometimes you can jump even if you’re mashing ‘X’ over and over. It’s a little glitch that happens especially when fighting enemies.

5. Inability to use the scenery. You’re supposed to be able to climb on crates and stuff, but the only time you get to do it is if it’s directly related to getting to the next room. If you just want to climb on some crates to get a higher perspective on the enemies in the room, sometimes it works, but often times forget about it. So frustrating.

6. When you die you respawn at the last save point (not necessarily checkpoint, save points are more abundant), and you respawn with the same health you had at the save point. Too often I’d reach a save point with a bar of health (out of 6 or so) and then die towards the end of the level, only to have to respawn and try the last part over and over with one bar of health. Most of the time you have to quit the game and load one or two past checkpoints to re-beat part of a level and maintain health. So frustrating. I ended up just switching to ‘easy’ just so I could beat the game faster.

7. The area. The whole game is really really small. You just do a lot of back tracking.

8. Some things don’t work. There are auto-guns mounted on walls that won’t fire if you just walk by empty-handed. But if you have a gun equipped (or club or such), they’ll fire at you. However, most of the time toward the end of the game, they’ll fire at you either way. When you have the problem like Con #6, where you have one bar of health starting out a segment, those auto-guns will waste you fast and you have to go back to an earlier checkpoint.

9. Game Length. It took me about 10 hours to complete. But were it not for all the cons I listed, it would have been about 5 hours easy. I just got lost for an hour and died a lot because of the respawn with little health thing.

If you really want this game, it is somewhat fun, but do yourself a favor and wait a month and find it on eBay for about $30. Save yourself some cash.

5 Stars Worth a second play
I have the PC port of Escape from Butcher’s Bay from 2004 and loved the game. I don’t play too many games on my PC anymore and was debating whether or not to spend the money on this game. I’m definitely glad I did. There are two episodes to this game. The first is a remake of the 2004 release “Escape from Butcher’s Bay” and the second is an all new campaign “Assault on Dark Athena.”

Butcher’s Bay is as good, if not better than I remember from 2004. There’s plenty of ways to play the game and there’s more than one path to get to some places. All of the FPS, stealth an melee elements work really well together and the game does a very good job of making you feel like Riddick.

What worried me is that the reviews I read indicated that if you’ve already played through Butcher’s Bay, then Dark Athena might not be worth a rebuy on it’s own. It doesn’t matter. It’s been 5 years since I played Butcher’s Bay and it still holds up so well that it’s definitely worth it on it’s own. Dark Athena is a good addition and makes the package worthy of full game price. The environments are varied and interesting, but the story is lacking polish and continuity. Loose ends are left hanging, like SPOILER “what ever happened to Johns? Isn’t he supposed to leave with Riddick at this point?” END SPOILER The game shifts gears into shooter territory for a little while with some neat foes, but brings back the stealth elements before the game is done.

For those wanting a game with a decent story to follow, gameplay variety and a good cast of characters, this package of Butcher’s Bay + Dark Athena is a very good choice.

5 Stars Awesome, triple-A, cinematic sci-fi experience.
This is a fantastic game (or more accurately two games, compiled on one disc) that unfortunately is coming out without much fanfare or buzz. Developed by Starbreeze, whom I personally consider one of the most talented and underappreciated developers in the business, this is an immensely enjoyable “shooter” that’s unique in the fact that its core gameplay focuses more on stealth gameplay and hiding from the enemy than you would normally expect from your typical shooting game. As the silent-but-deadly Riddick, you stalk your well-armed enemies like prey and then proceed to quietly take each guy down one-by-one until the path is cleared for you to continue on with your quest. This is basically a Splinter Cell-inspired stealth gameplay formula (although you also have the option to do a full-on assault with the enemy alerted to you, using either guns or brutal melee weapons like knives, brass knuckles, and billy clubs) and this is the same gameplay that got a lot of critical acclaim back with original Riddick: Butcher Bay on Xbox 1.

The best part about this game is the accomplishments on the presentation side; the digital character voicework and dialog, the overall cinematic/story presentation and production values, are simply top-notch among videogames, and in many ways outclass anything else you’ll see in the videogame world. If you want an immersive and movie-like sci-fi experience in interactive form, then this is what you’re looking for.

Contrary to the developer’s previous game, The Darkness, the PS3 version looks and runs quite well, with good special effects and texture details, and overall comparing decently to the 360 one; PS3 owners shouldn’t hesitate on buying this game on the fear that it’s an inferior product on their system. The multiplayer is okay, but it’s mostly a forgettable inclusion that the developers crammed in just to add a checkmark on the “standard features needed in all games” list; but everyone should already know that the main attraction of a Riddick game lies in the single-player campaign. Or rather “campaigns,” plural; this game is a great value because it essentially offers two games in one: a next-gen remake of the original critically-acclaimed Escape from Butcher Bay (Xbox), and a whole new sequel, Assault on Dark Athena, for gamers to sink their teeth into.

5 Stars Awesome
I have been waiting so long after the demo came

to PS3. I didn’t think it was going to be crystal

clear judging by the demo. They were using to heavy

of a certain HDR setting and it did not look right. But after playing this and finding out that Escape

From Butcher Bay comes with it. It looks sharp and clear. This game can it really get my adrenaline going if you know what I mean. Very few games do that anymore for me. Now I’m huge Chronicles of Riddick fan but I think even for someone who has not ever played the Escape From Butcher Bay is in for a great treat.

Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories

Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories

Vice City, 1984. Opportunity abounds in a city emerging from the swamps, its growth fueled by the violent power struggle in a lucrative drugs trade. Construction is everywhere as a shining metropolis rises from foundations of crime and betrayal. As a soldier, Vic Vance has always protected his dysfunctional family, his country, himself. One bad decision later and that job is about to get much harder. Kicked out onto the streets of a city torn between glamour and gluttony, Vic is faced with a stark choice - build an empire or be crushed.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories is the highly anticipated portable prequel to the PlayStation 2 blockbuster.

Impressive graphic overhaul
Vice City Stories is a monumental improvement upon the previous Grand Theft Auto title on the PlayStation Portable. For one, the draw distance has nearly doubled so that buildings and features can be seen across town. Character models and cars are as detailed as if they were on the PlayStation 2 and include all of the shine and transparency that looked so great in other Grand Theft Auto titles. Players can even choose the clothing that Vic will wear in Vice City. Overall, Rockstar has substantially increased all visual elements so that you don’t need to make any graphical sacrifices when taking Grand Theft Auto on the road.

Even the city appears as never before- people on the street will notice you and recognize you for the actions you’ve taken on previous missions. Some even comment about actions you’ve taken and give you an idea about how the public feels about your notoriety.

Expanded gameplay
New characters never before seen in Vice City add new twists to the story gamers were introduced to in the PlayStation 2 Vice City title. With a playtime of over 15 hours for the storyline alone, there is certainly plenty to see and hear in and around the city. Choose from various objectives to complete such as doing stunts for a chocolate commercial, chasing a known drug dealer to swipe his loot, and patrolling your neighborhood for specific thugs. Knock down objectives and get swept up in the plot or sit back and explore the big city- the choice is yours!

The hallmark style of “sandbox” gameplay is ever present and players can (forcefully) take control of nearly any vehicle they see and roam the streets in search of interesting characters and opportunities. In addition to cars, busses, bikes, and trucks, you can now cruise the waterways of Vice City in a large number of water craft! Jet-skis, motorboats, and even fishing vessels are there for the taking whether you’re tracking the bad guy or just killing time. If you need even more mobility, consider one of the many arial options such as helicopters- helpful for taking out enemies from afar.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars GTA PSP
First time playing PSP version of GTA. Graphics are awesome for a small handheld machine… and the special effects are better than my PC version! Controls will take some time to get used to… and the missions seem to be pretty simple overall… hopefully it gets better with time.

5 Stars Great but a step down in some ways
Of course this is a GTA game, so it’s amazing compared to regular fare, but in many ways the series took a step backward here. Car handling can be crazy, the setting “borrows” so much from Scarface I’m surprised they weren’t sued, and the character is annoying — especially when he breaks the fourth wall and talks to you. But the bones of the game — killing, mayhem, crime — are all as strong as ever.

3 Stars Loading Terror!!!
First GTA to play and own. The graphics are good and there’s plenty of missions to accomplish. However there are TWO major draw-backs.

The loading time. Each time you exit a building, the screen loads. A cutscene? Loading. How about a mission? That has to load too. This is one of the major draw-backs of vice city and since you will be doing MANY missions, the loading time added up all together can be pretty wasteful. Something that just shouldn’t be on a psp.

Another nuisance is the camera-angle. Vice City’s camera control is funny. If you want to use it you’ll have to awkwardly stretch a finger to press down on that L-button which can be tedious especially in the middle of a mission or being chased by the cops. Secondly the camera angle depends on the joystick(which you also have to use for running around), so if you driving in a car you can accidentally shift the camera upwards when you don’t want to!!! It can feel uncomfortable and weird trying to hold the L-button and rotate the joystick at the same time.

This is fun to play but the loading and camera issue is a nuisance.

5 Stars My son loves this game!
My 17-yr-old loves this game. He has had Grand Theft Auto on different systems, but says that this is at least as good as all of the others! He is impressed with the graphics and the audio. He received several PSP games for Christmas but has spent the most time playing with this one. He is thoroughly enjoying this game on his PSP 3, and that makes it a great purchase! I would definitely recommend it!

4 Stars I like it
I play this game all the time, I really like the action. I can play it for hours at a time. I had to get my grandpa to order it for me since I don’t have a credit card.
