1 Star Massive disappointent
I was really looking forward to this, the Scrabble CD-ROM I was using was horribly out of date. But it was a lot more fun than this one. I’m used to playing at a certain skill level, and I don’t maintain it on this thing, or even come close, because, to put it simply, it’s fixed. Unlike the old edition, you do not have the option to (blindly) pick your own tiles, they are always given to you automatically. And it’s amazing how many times I can get aaauuii by the luck of the draw! This thing is such a sign of our decaying times, it knows it’s fixed, it knows that the computer comes out with using all seven letters five times in a row to spell words that exist only as dictionary specimens, but they think giving you the opportunity to cheat evens the playing field! They call it “hints.” It’s a multiple-step cheat, how self-delusional can someone be to think that they can use this feature and say they’ve fairly matched their wits against the computer? I am sorry I bought it, and now I see the price has dropped since January — real sweet.

Since I installed it, the following happens: sometimes is won’t play, but I try again and it will play. Although this is a bit of a nuisance, I end up playing every time. Once I am playing the game is great.
4 Stars Lovez the Scrabble
Great game. Couldn’t get it to install on Win98(no problem, I can also play it online at www.word-games.pogo.com for free as a guest) but it installed fine on my laptop with Vista Home Edition.
At the start of the game there is an Options button that lets you disable the full screen mode so you can minimize it.
It goes from Beginner to Genius levels, so far I’m trying to master the Veteran level which is midway. Like a crossword puzzle its amazing how many words that you’ve forgotten surface to your conscious mind when you least expect them too.
The speeds are Classic(my speed), Blitz, Tournament, and Custom Tournament.
An interesting feature is that either you or your opponent will get dished out all vowels, consonants, or just a bad selection of letters for a couple of turns resulting in the need for an exchange of new letters while one of you gets a choice selection resulting in high scoring overlapping words! A nice fustration factor built in.
The only drawback is the limited dictionary vocabulary resulting in you not being able to enter some common words and places, but online Scrabble has that problem as well however its good enough to keep you challenged.

This is a great version of my favorite game. It’s great to pass the time on your computer.
3 Stars Too many vowels
I was a little surprised how many times it gives you multiple vowels. I see AAUUUII too many times and don’t think it “shuffles” very well from game to game. Sometimes you get the same letter back when you Exchange. Otherwise it’s OK.
