2 Stars It works but I had problems
I purchased this system in the hopes of getting a decent working NES system. The SNES slot was just a bonus for me and would allow me to keep my SNES in storage instead of continuing to use it. Here are the pros and cons I found.
Pros : It works. It seems to play SNES games more or less flawlessly. NES games also work, but not quite as well. The system is small and hooks up with regular cables, so you don’t need to worry about a proprietary hookup to get it hooked up to your tv. It uses SNES accessories so you can use regular SNES controllers instead of the crappy ones it comes with.
Cons : I went through two systems and Amazon Customer Service had me do a refund instead of sending me a 3rd system to try. (Amazon Service has been exceptional through this all just for the record). My first system arrive and worked well, but there was some static banding that really annoyed me in the video signal. I figured It had some bad connection on the inside, so I returned it and got a replacement. Two days later I tested the second one. This one had the same banding, but I found that hooking up with just the rca video cable instead of s-video reduced this static. I decided at first to keep the system and just tolerate it. But then I tried some NES games. I found the NES slot to be extremely tight. It was difficult to get games back out of the system. Finally, I tried Castlevania and the game didn’t work. I had to pull it very hard to get the game back out and when I did the pins in the NES slot had pulled out of the slot.
Conclusion : It does work and seemed to work well before the NES slot broke. The difficulty in getting the NES slot to cooperate has steered me away for the time being.
4 Stars retro system
at first the system didnt work so he said to send it back. He was able to resolve the problem in less than a week and the system works great, im able to play my old school nintendo games again
3 Stars You get what you pay for at less than $50 for 2 systems
The controllers are pretty bad, but you can use the original SNES controllers which are absolutely brilliant. I also immediately noticed what many other reviewers mentioned in regards to it being difficult to remove NES games.
Starting out, I was able to play all of my games without issue. The more I used the console (and especially with NES and Japanese games) I found the system not working. Some games I had to mess around with a bit to get them to work, similar to the old days of blowing on the cart.
It’s not a perfect solution by any means and if you are able to get a good, working Nintendo and Super Nintendo, that’s the best route. Still, at less than $50 for 2 systems I’m not complaining that I can’t play a couple of my games.
1 Star Fair system
The system will play the SNES Games just fine but will not play any NES games. Even the game that comes with the system will not play in the system. A huge disappointment how mostly bought the system to play the old games.
4 Stars Decent System
I chose this over the FC Twin because I heard better reports about its compatibility with several games that I have. It seems to be true; the only game I’ve had any trouble with was duck hunt, since this console only has connections for SNES controls. The compatibility is great, and I haven’t had any trouble with SNES/SFC games (yep, it’s compatible with American, Japanese, and reportedly European games!). Every NES game I’ve tried has run, but that’s where I get into some nitpicky bits. Double Dragon 2 had some issues with the status info on the bottom of the page “scrolling” along when I went forward in the level. I think that was just a problem with the cartridge being dirty though. Also, on NES games, the sound leaves something to be desired. The volume is uneven, and it’s “scratchy”-sounding. Compared to the actual NES I have, you definitely lose something. Also, the game slots were rather “snug” when I started using the console. I had to brace it against the floor with one hand while pulling on the game with the other. When the game popped out, I saw that several of the connector pins in the console had gotten bent, and had to bend them back into place (with a small screwdriver). So, I guess that while my experience wasn’t perfect, I’m happy with my purchase. It lets me get back into my retro gaming awesomeness! I think it’s worth it, despite minor problems.
